Bobby & Gloria's Race for Autism

Donation protected
Dear Family & Friends,

So, last year, we decided to participate in a marathon (what were we thinking?). We run the usual 10 km at least twice a week but now, we want to run 42 km?

Well, it is an item our individual bucket lists, so we will give it our best shot.

On Saturday, 11th February, 2017, we will be participating in the Lagos City Marathon and are rounding up a challenging 3 months of training to get us ready to start and finish the 42 km run.

We also thought, "Since we are going through all this pain to achieve something in our bucket list, we can also do it for a good cause."

So, we have undertaken to fundraise £3,000 (about N1,233,000) for the PATRICK SPEECH & LANGUAGES CENTRE (A Centre For Autism), Lagos.

What is our objective?
- Raise the awareness levels among Nigerians about Autism. With more awareness, we can eliminate ignorance and the many actions that stem out of that.
- Increase the support for people living with Autism and their families.
- To financially support one of the few organisations doing a great work in the area of Autism, so they can do much more. The need in Nigeria is overwhelming.

Why Autism?
- Autism is a lifelong condition and due to our ignorance in Nigeria about its symptoms, the majority with Autism are demonised and ostracised. This must change and change quickly.
- We have a family member living with Autism and as a result, we have seen first hand the amount of care and resources it requires.
- We have also seen how through proper care, people with Autism can live life and accomplish their God-given purpose. We want more Nigerians to experience this.

Why this Centre?
- Patrick Speech & Languages Centre is a well-run and well-staffed organisation providing general and specialised services to children (and adults) with Autism. We have visited this Centre and were quite impressed with the passion, expertise and dedication of the staff.
- The founder of the Centre, Mrs Dotun Akande, is a mother of a son living with Autism. She turned her pain into a platform to provide an amazing support to many other parents and children with Autism. She does her work with such dedication and a commitment to ensure children with Autism can grow up fulfill purpose in life.
- We may be wrong but we believe this Centre for 10 years has provided the best range of services for children with Autism. The services include speech therapy, behavioural modification, sensory integration, occupational therapy, pre-academic skills, social skills development, physical therapy, vocational services and music therapy.
- The Centre's commitment to excellence made them the first Certified Autism Centre by IBCCES (International Board of Credentialing and Continuing Education Standards) in Nigeria.
- We strongly recommend you visit their website - http://pslcautism-ng.org/ to find out more.

What your donation can do?
- As you can imagine, many children with Autism are from poor homes. At this centre, many of the children do not pay the fees, so their care is paid for by donations and judicious use of the fees that are paid by those who can afford to do so. Thus, your donation will enable the Centre take in more Autistic children. This is an urgent need.
- They will also be able to maintain their high standards of services for the current children and the additional children they take on board.

The Marathon is on Saturday,11th February, 2017 and the fundraising with end on Monday,13th February at 00.00 PST.

Please give generously and mobilise others to give as well. Let's achieve our £3,000 target and with your encouragement, we will finish the marathon in good time and shape.

Credit and debit cards from Nigeria and the rest of the world is accepted on this site.
