Bobby Charles

In March of 2018 our dad, Bob Charles, was diagnosed with Stage 4 Neuroendocrine Cancer.  It is a rare cancer, known as the "zebra" of cancers, and is hard to diagnose.  For the past year, he has met with his oncologist and received monthly injections to help combat the symptoms associated with this type of cancer.  His quality of life was deteriorating,  leaving him with the final option of surgery to remove the bulk of the tumors.  On Wednesday April 24th, Bob underwent abdominal surgery to remove 4 large tumors and look for evidence of additional tumors.  His surgeon confirmed what we have known all along, that Bobby Charles truly is one of a kind.  Not only did he have more than 4 tumors, but they were  also "too numerous to count" and the size of BB gun pellets.  It took Dr. Boudreaux close to 8 hours to remove them.  The surgeon also removed his appendix.  Bob's version of a two for one deal.   While the bulk of his medical costs will be covered by insurance, Bob and Mary still need your help.  His cancer diagnosis and treatment will involve numerous doctors appointments, with travel to and from Louisiana from their home in Florida.  It will also require Mary to take significant time off of work without pay.  He is scheduled to stay in New Orleans for at least another week or two and will need to return in another 3-4 months for additional surgery to remove the tumors on his lung.  Following surgery, he will undergo chemotherapy and radiation to target the tumor on his skull.  We are all hopeful that once the tumors are removed his quality of life will begin to improve.  Thank you for all of your prayers and well wishes.  Anything you can contribute to this fund is greatly appreciated.  Please continue to keep Bob and Mary and the rest of our family in your prayers.  He is in good spirits, recovering well and fighting hard every day to beat this.
