Heather's Medical Fund

On May 15, 2015 this cute girl, Heather, fell while playing tag at school.  She tripped and hit her head on a balance beam and instantly lost sight in her left eye.  After two weeks it was determind that Heather had suffered a significant trauma to her brain and had a serious concussion or "traumatic brain injury."

Heather is a gifted athlete and has not been able to participate in sports since her injury 18 months ago.  She missed a year of school and is in chronic pain every minute of every day.  Heather has a headache all the time and has developed Complex Regional Pain Syndrome in her legs, which causes a shooting electric, burning pain in her lower legs.  Her vision has not corrected; she has gained some sight back, but has no periferal vision in either eye.  She says it's like looking through a straw.

Heather has undergone significant physical, ocupational, speech and psychological therapy, most of which has not been covered by insurance.  Such pediatric specialties do not accept any insurance plans.  Her parents have maxed out multiple credit cards and have piles of collection notices for unpaid bills.  Her current therapy is costing $1200 a month, also rejected by their insurance.

The good news is that Heather has been accepted into a pain clinic program at Boston Children's Hospital, a leading center for this kind of injury and pain syndrome.  Attending this requires Heather and her parents to live in the Boston area for 6 weeks. Room and board are not provided by the hospital, and her parents will have to alternate leaving their work as teachers to accompany her.

We are asking for your help to raise money so that Heather and her family can get out from under the enormous medical bills we already have, and take this opportunity to attend Boston Children's Hospital to recieve treatment for her chronic pain.  We need to raise money quickly, as this program  begins in mid-December.

As parents, it has been heartbreaking to watch our daughter be in so much pain, and miss out on her childhood.  She just wants to be a kid again, and play softball and soccer and drums and guitar, and go to school without the distraction of searing pain.

We feel a most humble and lowly-heart felt gratitude for your help!  We are beyond overwhelmed and feel helpless against a tidal wave of financial need.  We have tried everything available to us, and attending this specialized program is our last option.  We just want to help Heather be pain free!  Thank you for considering our cause!
