Blues411 Internet Radio

At Blues411, our goal is to help Blues Music Thrive. It was in that spirit that we started Blues411 Internet Radio in January of 2016. Of course, that was probably the worst time to start an internet radio station. The “discount” on music royalties for small stations disappeared effective Jan 1 of this year. That means that it’s more expensive than ever to have a small radio station and it also means that thousands of internet stations literally vanished overnight.

In starting Blues411 Internet Radio, our goal was to have it be like the old days at B.B. King's Bluesville on Sirius/XM Radio – DJs playing a wide variety of blues music. Maybe your favorite was the Picks to Click show or the Front Porch or the Wash Cycle. Regardless of when you tuned in, you knew you could count on hearing quality blues music.

So right out of the gate, we decided to be a 24/7/365 station – always there when you need us! As of September 1st, we have 9 shows hosted by a DJ. In addition there are another 6 shows that are, as we like to say, Carefully Curated. And to all of you who currently tune in to listen, we’re glad you found us!

DJs/Shows:
Catfish/Catfish Point
Chef Jimi /Three Peat
Galaxie Agency/Music City Blues Kitchen
Guest Curator of the Month
Lady A/Gumbo & Gospel
Leslie Joseph/Baker's Dozen of Blues
Mudcat /Piedmont Report
Sarah French/Black Coffee Radio Hour
Michael Kinsman/ Hoodoo Ya Ya

Curated Shows:
Acoustic Parlor
Blues is a Woman
Blues You Can Use
Electric Jungle
Fresh Bytes
Soul Kitchen

We started Blues411 Internet Radio knowing that it would cost us some money and a lot of time to get things going.  This means we’re looking for some help to keep this station going into its second year (2017) and beyond.

Our costs are pretty basic – the radio platform fee, music royalties and a web site. Leslie Joseph will continue to be the Station Manager (fancy title and lots of “volunteer” hours) and I’ll continue to be Manager of everything else that’s needed to keep the station running and on air (almost keeping me out of trouble).

Oh yeah, and we’ll both keep doing our shows – Leslie does the Baker’s Dozen of Blues and I do a Three Peat show as well as hosting the Music City Blues Kitchen – an interview/guest DJ show featuring Nashville Musicians and sponsored by Gina Hughes of the Galaxie Agency.

Big opportunity alert - if you want to donate $250, you’d have the opportunity to be one of our Guest Curators! It’s a pretty cool gig that lasts a month and gives you a chance to share some of your favorite music and take about songs that inspire you. And, if you’re a musician, we can also showcase and talk about some of your music.

So that’s our pitch. We hope you’ll consider giving us some of your hard earned money so we can keep the lights on here at Blues411 Internet Radio.
