Located in the lovely community of Bloomington, Indiana, Bloominglabs is Indiana's first makerspace, and we've been going strong since 2010. Makerspaces offer a lot to their communities, and Bloominglabs is no exception. People who don’t have the money or space for their own workshop can come to Bloominglabs’ 3100 square foot space to work on projects. Along with space, Bloominglabs offers access to tools and members are happy to share their expertise in a wide variety of skills from 3D printing to welding. We partner with other community organizations like the public library and Wonderlab, our local children's museum, to offer making programs for kids. And who can forget Makevention, an annual Maker convention hosted by Bloominglabs, that brings local and regional makers together to show off our awesome maker community.  As for our national community, we are proud to be part of the Nation of Makers , a national organization of makerspace organizers started by President Obama.

And now after 3 years at our current space on S. Rogers, we’ve learned our lease will terminate at the end of December, and we need to find a new space. Finding Bloominglabs a new space is always challenging. We raise nearly all our funds through dues and workshop fees, but being a charity, we keep those fees low. We can't afford market rent rates in Bloomington, and in the past we've been lucky to find spaces that can rent to us cheaply. The bad part about renting cheap spaces is  they often need a lot of renovations and require some investment to get them to meet our needs.

We've found a couple of possible new spaces, but bringing a new space up to snuff, installing new electrical wiring and networking, putting up walls - all this requires work, knowledge, and money. Bloominglabs has the talent and energy, but we need your help with the funds. If you have been helped by Bloominglabs in the past, or if you just want to help us continue providing maker resources to our various communities, any donation will help. It all adds up, and your donation is tax deductible as well. Thanks for helping us keep a good thing going!

We have been working furiously for the past two months to get the space ready to show off to all our supporters. Thanks to this GoFundMe, money we raised at Makevention, and of course members' generous donations of money and time, we have moved walls, bought furniture, laid cables, hung drywall, painted walls, painted ceilings, sealed floors, and now are at a point where we want to show it off to all of you!

Come to our open house on Saturday, March 3rd, from 11am to 3pm. Our new location is 1840 S. Walnut, the white building behind the Big Red Liquor. Come down the steep driveway, and follow the signs to around the back. We'll have the grill going (weather permitting) and are looking forward to showing off our new digs. Thanks again to everyone and see you at the new Bloominglabs soon!

Thanks to everyone's generous donations, we have met our funding goal! We are humbled by our community's support of Bloominglabs. So far we have built a wall in our new space separating the metal shop and our classroom space, expanded our RFID system to cover all the doors, and installed wired networking to all the rooms. We still have work to do like fixing some of the floors and painting the entire space. We can't wait to have an open house and for our first public night to show off what is a fantastic new space. Thanks again. All of your support means a lot!

So, we have found a space! We're close to signing the lease, and once we do we'll know more about what work needs to be done. We'll keep updating everyone with our progress and we're excited to share our new digs!

Also, our members have pledged $1450 for the build out, AND we raised $725 at Makevention, our city's annual maker fair. So, we are now 3/5ths of the way to our $5K goal!

Because of member pledges and the money we raised at Makevention, I'm lower our GoFundMe goal to $3K. Thanks to everyone who has donated so far, and we'll keep ya'll updated on our progress.
