PlayToHelp Drive 2019

Tax deductible
PlayToHelp is a 501 (c) (3) registered non-profit organization devoted to helping underprivileged children in Nepal since 2011; primarily we raise funds to assist with school tuition. These children come from families that have income levels between $1-$8 per day. At this income level, families live on two meals a day for food and a shared room for housing. Anything additional is a “luxury” – they might have access to electricity but no running water, no TV,  and no means of transportation. PlayToHelp provides some financial relief to such families through tuition scholarships to make sure these children can go to a good school. To date, we have helped more than 50 students with 25 of them having finished at least a few years of school through our sponsorship program.

Sameer Regmi (photograph: middle) is one such students we have supported since 2013. Sameer lives on the outskirts of Kathmandu and is shy in nature. His father works as a contractor and his mother is a stay-at home mom. He is currently in the tenth grade, working hard to pass his state exam. Sameer shared with us that he wakes up at 4:30 am every morning to get ready for school, which lasts for twelve hours every day. In his free time during the weekends and at home, he watches educational “how to” videos to build things. His latest project was to build a doorbell for his room, and in the past he built a toy car using motors from his old DVD player. In the future, he wants to build robots. He enjoys his mathematics class the most and says he would like to improve his Nepali language and literature.

Sameer’s passion to make time for his bigger dream and work on cool self-driven building projects has inspired PlayToHelp to do something different this year as well. In addition to supporting more children like Sameer who are in financial need with tuition, we would like to give these students a gift of inspiration: Wrinkle in Time, a book about adventure, space and travels and is a favorite novel of many children.

Our goal is to raise $5000 during this holiday season to be able support 12 children.  All the funds raised will go towards the students’ tuition and books, with minimal administrative cost and zero overhead. Please consider donating to PlayToHelp and give a budding young engineer, like Sameer, the opportunity to learn and achieve their goals. We really appreciate your support.
