Let's launch a Balloon into Space!

Donation protected

I am a sixth grade teacher at Camas Prairie Elementary School in Spanaway, Washington.  My class would like to send a weather balloon into near space so that we can collect data on temperature, air pressure, and wind speeds on the skies above our school!  But we need your help.  In order to complete this experiment, we need to purchase a kit from High Altitude Science and three GoPro cameras to record the trip.

This project is very close to my heart.  Earlier this year, our school tragically lost a teacher very dear to us.  Science was his passion and he wove it into every school day.  After his passing, I took on the task of teaching his class, and I cannot think of a better way to honor his memory than to pull off a science project of this size!  The best part is that, upon successful retrieval of the "ship", this project can be repeated for years to come!

We are a low-income school and a project of this magnitude is simply not in our budget.  Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated.  Your donations will go to me personally and I will then donate to my  school district.  Any money extra money I raise will go towards more weather balloons and keeping the subscription to the satellite-based tracker going so that other schools in my district can pull this project off with as little expense as possible.

Update:
A HUGE thank you to everyone who has donated so far!  I can't believe how much we've raised in such a short time!  This project has grown pretty quickly over the past few weeks and I've had to raise my goal amount to make sure we can pull it off.  I've been in contact with the local military base (which is less than a mile from Camas Prairie) and they have graciously invited our sixth graders to come out, launch the balloon, and tour several base operations that relate to the project and the equipment we're using!  I raised the goal amount to reflect the cost of buses for the field trip, helium to fill the balloon, and the subscription fee for the satellite-based GPS tracker that will be on the "ship."
