The Birdia Keglar Legacy Foundation  aims to honor the memory and service of Birdia Keglar annually through an event held in her hometown of Charleston, MS.  During the turbulent times of the 1950's and 1960's, activists from all areas of the country traveled to Tallahatchie County (MS) to aid in the Civil Rights movement. Freedom Riders, SNCC members, and  SCLC members were directed to Mrs. Birdia Keglar. . She was the first registered voter in Tallahatchie County and led the campaign to get other African-Americans in the county registered to vote.

In the spring of 2006, a proposal was accepted by Board of Supervisors of Tallahatchie County asking that June 1 of each year be declared Birdia Keglar Day.  2018 will be the 13th recognition of her life and service.   The Foundation throws an annual celebration; offering voter registration, election information and education and providing health screenings.  The Foundation also sponsors a scholarship to a deserving female student registered in a Tallahatchie County high school.

Your funds will ensure that this event will be enjoyed by the community.  This will also help to solidify scholarship funds that will help a deserving student begin her college journey.
