Bioptic Lenses

My name is Hannah, I am nineteen years old and going to be a sophomore in college.   At ten years old, I was diagnosed with Juvenile Macular Degeneration, also known as Stargardt's disease.  There is no known cure and the doctor's cannot predict my future vision, except that the condition will deteriorate further, my blind spots will get larger and I will lose my color vision completely. I am legally blind. This eye condition has made it very difficulty to do school work as well as making normal, everyday life, independence and transportation a real challenge.

I have been working to save money to purchase a pair of specialized glasses called bioptic lenses. These glasses are very expensive and insurance does not pay any portion of buying them. 

It is my goal to purchase a pair before college starts in September.  It would be life changing to get through a day of college without a headache from trying to focus and concentrate while having to strain to see small print or look at information on a moving screen that has been largely magnified.  The magnification causes motion sickness and everything that I am required to read requires me to strain my eyes.  It takes me hours to complete most assignments.  The bioptic glasses will help me in many ways.
