Ride Across America for Recovery

Two and a half years ago I lost my best friend, Ben, to addiction. It came out of nowhere and stole him from us. He was passionate, intelligent, kind, engaging, honest, loving, generous, thoughtful - everything you could ever want in a friend. When I say addiction stole him I mean it took these traits first, hollowing him out before taking the whole thing. This story has become too common for far too many families.
One month ago I left on a bike trip from L.A. with the end destination of Moab, UT. The goal: compete a dream of mine, overcome my fears, and jump out of the rut I was in after Ben's passing. It's been more challenging than I ever expected and more rewarding, yet still felt shallow and selfish. I decided to try out gofundme and try to raise awareness and money for addiction and recovery.
I'm going to extend my trip all the way across America, and live out a dream I wish I could have done with Ben. Ben passed 3 days before checking into Dawn Farm's recovery facility. I'm asking people to donate whatever they can and all the money raised will go to Dawn Farm.
Dawn Farm is a Michigan addiction treatment center with an emphasis on the recovering community as the most important source of healing and recovery support for our clients. They are dedicated to assisting alcoholics and addicts in achieving long-term recovery through identifying and removing barriers that prevent addicts and alcoholics from joining the recovering community. Dawn Farm never turns anyone away based on their inability to pay. That means they rely on donors to help provide scholarships for a person who doesn't have the means to stay with us to receive treatment. 15-20% of their residential beds consistently remain dedicated to people who rely on this funding for treatment. For every $130 I am able to raise, I will be supporting 1 day of treatment for someone who otherwise may not be able to take steps towards recovery.
