Bibles for Burundi is a non-profit church based organization working to help spread the word of God to the people of Burundi.
Burundi is located in East-Central Africa and is relatively the same size as the State of Massachusetts. It has a total population of approximately 10.16 million people, which equates to a population density of just over 1,000 people for each square mile.
Burundi is one of the world’s poorest countries, with an average annual household income of just $560, making it second only to the poorest country in the world, the Democratic Republic of Congo, which has an annual HH income of $422.
Aside from being riddled with poverty, Burundi has suffered at the hands of a recent ethnic-based war that resulted in more than 200,000 deaths, forced 48,000+ refugees into Tanzania, and displaced 140,000 others internally. With food, medicine, and electricity in short supply, disease has a major foothold in this small, medically under staffed and under supplied country.
75% of the population of Burundi are Christian, which is why it is so important to continue to strengthen and support our brothers and sisters in Christ by sending them Bibles!
There is a deep hunger for God’s Word all across Burundi. Churches are asking for help; Christians in Burundi need Bibles of their own, and the lost need to hear the Gospel.
