Mission Statement:

"To create an atmosphere that not only directly influences our youth and local economy in a positive manner but to change the persona of the Southern fashion industry while setting the stage for future generations."

Two childhood friends, Heidi Elnora, Founder (an internationally recognized fashion designer based in Alabama) and Jeana Lee Thompson, Co-Founder (a successful retail business owner and Birmingham’s own fashionista) created Birmingham Fashion Week (BFW) in April 2011. After attending and showing at numerous fashion weeks across the country, they decided to create BFW to give back to their community while supporting other fashion enthusiast's dreams.

What started out as two best friends donating their time (between the hours of 11 pm and 4 am) and money to create something special for Alabama, Birmingham Fashion Week has grown to be one of the TOP fashion events in the country. Birmingham Fashion Week is recognized by local, regional, and national press. Acclaimed designers like Tibi, Show Me Your MuMu, Rebecca Taylor, What Goes Around Comes Around, Rails, Alice and Trixie, and Project Runway winners have all graced the BFW stage.  BFW has become the hub for fashion, encouraging locals and visitors alike to explore the creative talents of Birmingham, Alabama.

"New York Fashion, Sweet Home Style." - BFW

Over the past 7 years, Birmingham Fashion Week (BFW) has provided thousands of dollars in scholarships. BFW has gained the attention and on-going support from accredited colleges such as the Savannah College of Art and Design and the University of Alabama.

To everyone who has ever attended Birmingham Fashion Week or been back stage, has had a child or student involved, saw your daughter or son gain confidence as they walked onto the stage, then you understand the importance of Birmingham Fashion Week. Birmingham Fashion Week is more than just a community event or a runway show, it changes people's lives and gives opportunities that would otherwise not be available.

So why a GoFundMe page?

In 2016, with a crowd of over 2000, Birmingham Fashion Week came to a halt due to the lack of funding. But, it looks so fabulous you might say, yes it does.  However, that is what fashion is about. From the outside, everything is perfect. You don't see all the hours and money spent putting it together.  All the time laboring over every tiny detail to make sure that the show looks and goes flawlessly. As sad as it is, the founders cannot continue to donate their time and money to keep the show going. They need financial support. They need to be able to raise enough capital to hire 2 people full time. They need to raise enough capital to pay for the venue, the stage, the lights, the programs, the flights, the hotels, the food, the signage, the supplies, the eyelashes and lipstick, the website, the PR team, the organizing of a 3-day event with over 6,000 visitors and the opportunity to create more fashion events and scholarship opportunities. The list of needs and potential events goes on and on and on.  Birmingham Fashion Week cannot continue to exist without local businesses and community leaders stepping up and helping. We need the community to wake up. No donation is too small.  We need businesses to make a stand. Help us expand our reach. Help us to continue to change life's and to make dreams come true. Help us to offer even more scholarship and opportunities to our models, make-up artist, hair stylist, emerging designers (grad and post-grad), rising design stars (Jr high and high school students), photographers, bloggers, southern makers, local designers, artist, production designers, local restaurants, graphic designers, southern makers, accessory designers and help us to save the future of Southern fashion. Help to start a FASHION REVOLUTION.

Without your support, the show will not go on. This community event is more than just a fashion show. It is a place where all people feel welcome. It is a place where our young people can chase their dreams. It is a place where people from all different backgrounds and economic status stand side by side. If you have been involved you get it. If you haven't, you are missing out.
