Homeless family needs a home
For the past couple of years our Labor and Delivery unit has adopted family's in need at Christmas time. This year a family that suffered a fetal loss at our hospital and have two other small children ages 1 and 2 touched quite a few of our lives with their story. They are currently homeless and their two small children are being temporarily housed with an organization that takes children in temporarily until they can get back on their feet. They are living with friends but it is a day to day situation. The Dad has a job at Walmart currently. We would like to try to raise enough money to help them with first and last months rent and stock their pantry with food and other day to day essentials. We would like to purchase the little ones some clothes and maybe one or two toys. We would love to get Mom and Dad back on their feet so that they can bring their children to live in a safe environment for them. Anything that you can donate will be helpful, they have nothing. Please find it in your heart to help a family in dire need this Christmas Season. We are doing a personal fundraiser in our department at the hospital as well and if those who know any of us feel more comfortable we will be accepting donations of food, clothing and gift card/cash donations directly at the hospital as well. Thank-you everyone for your support for this sweet family.+ Read More
Just wanted to let everyone know that with the remaining money, we will be paying an additional 850$ towards February's rent. I also have a whole van full of other items that have been donated over the weekend. The outpouring of love from our community has truly been heartwarming. We will be picking up the last remaining donations at the hospital tomorrow morning and meeting with family tomorrow around 0930am. I will be closing out this account, I am still in awe that we not only reached our 3k goal but surpassed it!! What a wonderful Christmas gift that everyone has contributed to!! This is truly what Christmas is all about, helping our brothers and sisters in need.
We handed the keys over to our family today. We decorated the apartment, moved in the furniture, stocked the pantry and fridge. We went in 5 different directions picking up others donations from pots and pans to a queen mattress and box spring. They were so surprised and elated and shocked with everything. We will be finishing up with donations on Monday. Myself and another coworker are going over to their apartment on Monday with all other donated items and the remaining money we collect we will be putting in a money order toward February’s rent. This has truly been an amazing journey! God Bless!!
Welcome Home!!! Sorry for the late post, my husbands Christmas party was tonight. Our adopted family received their Welcome letter and final approval today. I will be going to the bank in the morning to get 2 money orders one for security deposit/December's prorated rent/admin fees and another Money order for ALL of January's rent as well. A whole troop of us ladies are going to be heading over to their new apartment with all the donations we have received tomorrow as well and our family plans on joining us in the afternoon after we have set it up for them with beds/furniture, clothing, diapers, household essentials, just all kinds of things from so many wonderful people most of which are strangers that none of us know but just had amazing generous heart. This has truly been a Community effort. I never imagined that we would be able to raise so much money and receive so many donations. Truly Humbling. We are going to use the rest of the funds that are left over and if more come in to purchase items that are essential to a home, stock the pantry and Walmart Gift cards for the family to buy what they need. I will update again with pictures tomorrow evening.
They were approved for the apartment today, the lady at the apartment complex did not tell them yet but told me this afternoon when I called and asked if they had given her all the paperwork that she needed. There are a couple of things that they still need to do for their application. Tomorrow I will know exactly what I need to give the apartment complex to get the keys and move them in!!! She has already told me that due to their credit which is not great the deposit is going to be $1,270.00, $75.00 to turn the power on and what the prorated rent will be for December. As of right now I believe that we should be able to take the funds that have been raised so far and pay for all of this for them. How amazing is this!! We are now working on figuring out exactly what others have donated as far as furniture and housing supplies and stocking the fridge and pantry. Please continue to share with others on your social media accounts to continue to raise just a little bit more funds. Everything is so appreciated from food donations, clothing, furniture, cash/gift-cards. I plan on taking pictures of how we set the apartment up for them and posting them on here, and if it is ok with them getting a picture of them all together in their new home and posting for everyone to see how your generosity has helped others in need.
