A Vision For STEM Education In Assam
...and Minneapolis
Imagine a chemistry class without experiments. Imagine learning physics concepts with no demonstrations.
Many areas of the world learn by memorization: the result is students who can parrot a concept, but with little understanding of the how and why.
That will soon change in areas of Assam in Northwest India — thanks to a South Minneapolis Rotary to support innovative, experiment‐rich, hands‐on STEM education for girls and training for teachers. These students are the next generation of scientists, engineers, teachers and parents. Join the Minneapolis South Rotary Club in making a positive difference with young minds.
WHY ASSAM?
These schools lack access to quality teachers and students learn by rote
More than 70 percent of eighth graders are unable to do basic division
Teachers are not trained for hands‐on ways of teaching through models and experiments
Teachers lack ways to make classes engaging and interesting
WHAT ABOUT MINNEAPOLIS?
Future plans for this project is to incorporate this hands‐on STEM training program to students in select Minneapolis schools
HOW
This project has received major grant funding from The Rotary Foundation. This fundraiser will help cover the Minneapolis South Rotary Club’s financial obligation to the project.
SUSTAINABILITY
This project will create a network of trained teachers that will continue to teach and inspire other teachers with hands‐on STEM learning.
