Craig’s Custom Rugby Wheelchair

Donation protected
My name is Craig W Styles, I would really appreciate your help and support in the furthering of my Wheelchair Rugby Career!

I am a British Army Veteran, I lost my right leg below the knee due to a devastating accident with a scimitar tank in 2000 whilst being based in Germany serving with the British Armed Forces.

I played first team-rugby for my regiment and absolutely loved it. After my accident I could no longer play rugby, I was absolutely devastated.
I contacted the RFU about my situation and they allowed me to play rugby wearing a prosthesis. I played 4 matches as number 6, flanker, for Kettering Rugby Club.

Unfortunately I sustained another injured to my knee so badly, that an amputation of the knee was inevitable, so in 2010 my knee was amputated and that ended my rugby career.

“ I was not going to give up”

All the time I was working on my recovery, all I wanted to do is play sports.  Sport has always played a vital role in my life and I could not imagine being without it. Sport gave me a reason to get up in the morning, it has always given me a purpose in life, both physically and mentally.
Since my only choice was to play sport in a wheelchair I tried wheelchair basketball.  Unfortunately I did not enjoy the sport, it wasn’t aggressive enough . I enjoyed playing rugby and decided not to take it any further.

In 2012 my life changed.  Paralympics London 2012, I watched wheelchair rugby.  I was convinced that I found my new sport, It gave me the same buzz, the same excitement as when I was playing rugby as an able bodied rugby player.

I joined the wheelchair rugby team at the Northampton Saints back in the summer of last year.  It has really given me a purpose and new meaning of sport again, which I really missed over the past few years since losing my knee in 2010.

The past few months, I have attended the Invictus Games Training Camps for Team UK, working hard and hopefully I will get selected for the Wheelchair Rugby Team and represent my country again in Sydney, Australia, in October of this year.
At the moment I am trying to raise money for a custom built rugby wheelchair that I need to use in the training and, if selected, take with me to Sydney.  At the moment I am using a wheelchair from the Northampton Saints, which unfortunately does not fit me properly and causes me grief whilst playing.

I would like to ask you kindly, please help me fund my Custom Built Rugby Wheelchair.

This would mean the world to me.
