The Bertram Leonard Ashe Educational Foundation is holding its second annual fall fundraising campaign in celebration of American Education Week November 18-22: http://www.nea.org/grants/19823.htm . The Bertram Leonard Ashe Educational Foundation was created by Dr. Bertram L. Ashe, a life long educator. The Mission of the Bertram L. Ashe Educational Foundation is to provide tools, programs, and services for under-served African American students to successfully complete post-secondary education.”
Dr. Ashe is a native of Key West, Florida. He received a B.A. in Social Science from CSULA, M.S. in Educational Administration from U.S.C. and Ph.D. in Educational Leadership from Nova Southeastern University. He served the Los Angeles Unified School District 1956-87 as a teacher, training teacher, intern advisor, teacher training consultant, assistant principal and principal. Dr. Ashe served as principal of 122nd St. School, Paseo Del Rey Magnet School and 75th St. School and assistant principal at McKinley Ave. and Manhattan Place Schools.
Following retirement he served as lecturer, intern supervisor and coordinator of California/Math Science Teacher Corps Project at Cal State Dominguez Hills, 1987-97. He was honored as one the top 50 Outstanding Principals in LAUSD by the Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce and has been the recipient of numerous other honors.
Dr. Ashe served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War An active layman in the United Methodist Church for over 50 years Dr. Ashe is a certified lay speaker in Cal Pac Conference, Long Beach District. His civic activities included service as past president of San Pedro-Wilmington Chapter NAACP and numerous other activities.
