Bertie and Friends

Tax deductible

This fundraiser is in aid of Bertie and his new found friends at Ardley Rescue Kennels.

Between Christmas eve and New year's Day, every dog to come into the kennels for rehoming has needing veterinary care. Often at a very high cost.

Below, you will read a little bit about each of the dogs who are most in need of your help at the moment:

BERTIE - 1 year old Shih Tzu. He was signed over to the rescue, just 2 days before his 1st Birthday (Christmas Eve!), as his owners no longer had time or money to look after him since he developed problems with both front legs. Bertie has seen what is called a 'Premature Closure of the Ulnar growth plates'. This means that his legs stopped growing too early, meaning they haven't formed correctly and have now bowed severely. You can see this in the X-Ray images and current photos. This will cost approximately £2,000 per leg to correct, £4000 in total + aftercare costs.

MOLLY - 12 year old Jack Russell. Molly was found as a stray locally and bought to the rescue centre on Christmas Eve. Sadly Molly was never claimed by her owners and her chip details were not up to date. Molly has an enlarged tumour distended from her abdomen, which needs to be removed. She also has a heart murmur, which means she will need extra monitoring and care during and after surgery to ensure her heart stays strong enough. This will cost around £500 + aftercare costs.

HANK - 1 year old Rottweiler Cross. Hank came in on New Year's Day, after being picked up as a stray barely able to walk. We immediately took him to the vets who determined that BOTH cruciate ligaments needed repairing in his back legs. Due to his sheer size, this operation will cost approximately £2,500 per leg, around £5000 in total + aftercare costs.

DOUG - 4 year old Bichon X. Doug came in to us early January in a complete mess. He is matted so badly, we had no idea what breed he was. He smelt stagnant, damp water and clearly looked as if he had been living outside for a long long time. He had chicken feathers, straw, thorns, vines and all sorts of other things matted into his fur. He required immediate grooming to remove the excessive matting that was suffocating him. Now he needs regular bathing to help heal his irritated skin as well as being castrated, vaccinated and microchipped.

This is excluding any additional check up visits to the vets, antibiotics, painkillers, routine castrations, vaccinations and microchipping costs are also added on top of this.

As you can see above, we are in desperate need of help to raise the much needed money to pay for these huge operations for these dogs. Without the operations, the dogs are in immense pain and are unable to rehomed in their current conditions.

Therefore, we want to raise as much money as quickly as possible so we can get them all fighting fit and ready to find their new forever homes.

Being this time of year, with this many unwell dogs, as you can imagine our heating bill has dramatically increased as well. So this is just another expense on top of our daily running costs.
This has been the worst Christmas in terms of unwell and injured dogs that Ardley Rescue Kennels has ever seen in their 20 years of work.

Please help Bertie and Friends to have the best possible chance in life.
