Benji Bikes for Biluim

For the first time in thirteen years, I will not be returning to camp this summer. I have been attending Canadian Young Judea camps since I was ten years old including Camp Biluim , CYJ’s leadership development camp, in 2008. The summer of 2008 has had a lasting impact on my life; I can safely say that the values I learnt and the experiences I had at Biluim changed my personality and my outlook on life. The people I consider my closest friends are ones that I experienced this incredible summer with. Biluim taught me that I have the skills to achieve whatever I set my mind to!
In the summer of 2011 I became a staff member at Camp Biluim and spent my summers on staff trying to give my campers the same experiences that I got when I was a camper. As the assistant program director in 2013 and 2014, I was able to be part of a team in charge of building the summer and creating a unique programming experience. I was able to give my input and creativity into creating two truly unique summers for my campers and felt like I was finally able to give back to the camp that had given me so much
I ended last summer knowing that it would be my last at Camp Biluim, and with a sense of satisfaction that I had helped my campers get everything they could out of Biluim. But even while I was trying to get my campers to get as much out of camp as possible, camp was still influencing my own personal growth. As a staff, Biluim brought out, and helped me develop, skills that I didn't know that I had. Each summer while I was trying to get my campers to test their boundaries, Camp Biluim was pushing me to test my own to see what I could accomplish. Every day was a new adventure and a new experience that pushed me to see what I could learn about myself.
This summer, although I will not be going back to camp, I will be participating in another adventure that will push me out of my comfort zone and to develop my own personal growth. On June 1st I will begin a solo bike trip in Montreal with the end goal of reaching Halifax. I have never done anything like this, and while I may be nervous, Biluim has taught me that I can accomplish anything I put my mind to. This camp has become so much more than just a home away from home for me, and I want to continue to give back to it any way I can. As such, I will be raising money for the Camp Biluim Scholarship Fund, a donation based fund that helps give subsidies to campers who can't afford to pay the full summer camp fees. Over my five years on staff I have seen first hand how a summer at Camp Biluim is able to impact the life of a sixteen year old and I want to make sure that every camper who wants this experience is able to get it. Any and every donation, small or large will be able to help send a camper to camp. Thanks for reading and I hope you can help!
