Ben Neverest Challenge 2019

Donation protected
BEN NEVEREST  CHALLENGE NOW Completed. I have now completed my seven ascents of Ben Nevis in 7 days which will be the eqivalent of climbing higher than Mount Everest, and hence the name Ben Neverest Challenge 2019. I finished the 7th ascent in 4hrs 33 minutes and I can't thank you all enough for getting behind me and raising they money we have. The donations page will stay open until the end of July. All monies will be donated to the Stephen Gartland Foundation, which was set up in the memory of Stephen who sadly passed away in 2016. Stephen's friends and family wanted his name to live on and started The Stephen Gartland Foundation which raises money for local good causes which include sponsorship of sports teams and adaptations to individuals with difficulties that could not necessarily afford them otherwise. Like myself Stephen struggled with Depression & Anxiety and after a short battle he sadly died by suicide. Mental Health amongst men is an ever growing concern and raising awareness that it is "OK TO TALK" is a message i boldly state and so does The Stephen Gartland Foundation. SG6 use funds to promote better well-being and awareness via it's mobile events unit which helps void the gap between poor NHS funding and support which is a direct result of the government publicly stating one thing and actually doing another, which is very little. The Stephen Gartland Foundation sponsor my own website which promotes better coping mechanisms towards mental health by way of getting out into nature and finding equilibrium by ecotherapy.  This does not cure mental health but it does give respite from the daily struggles of living with well-being issues.  Having climbed Ben Nevis last year in my own quest for a fulfilling meaning whilst trying to reach recovery, i thought what better way than to raise money for local good causes than to return, but this time with a very courageous  challenge. Climbing Ben Nevis which is the UK's highest mountain once, is a big enough challenge for anybody, but to climb it 7 times in 7 days boarders on insanity. So on July 6th 2019 i will start my 7 day challenge which if i am successful will mean i have climbed higher than Mount Everest and a total of 30,891ft. By the end of the challenge i will have ascended and descended 60, 782ft which is something i can be proud of and for a very good cause. Mental Health unfortunately is an illness that many people do not understand unless they have suffered it themselves. For many it causes frustration and even stereotypical comment's like "Man up" or "Are you not better yet" I think if you ask anybody who suffers, they would like nothing more than to lead a normally life and sadly for most that may never happen. Like myself learning to come to terms with the possibility life will never be the same again, and learning to manage your illness is a challenge most never get to grips with, and that is why Suicide rates are so high.  From my own experience anybody who has committed suicide, has does this because they see no way out and it is the better option than living. hopefully with more education, exposure and acceptance we can turn the tide and get people the support they need. The Stephen Gartland Foundation are spearheading this initiative locally and that is why i would like you to dig deep and support me on this challenge.
