BELL Garden Girls Security Fund

Donation protected
As many of you are aware, our beloved Idgie, one of the original 7 of our flock and the most senior of our girls was taken from the garden last Saturday afternoon.  We posted messages on the BELL Garden Facebook page along with our other social media sites. We put up flyers at the library, nearby apartment mailboxes, Red Caboose Park and other nearby locations. And we talked to everybody walking by the garden that afternoon.

Luckily, some kind, responsible neighbors were out putting their own girls to bed when they noticed our Idgie hanging out with their flock!  With all our media efforts they realized who she belonged to and immediately got in touch with us.  We are very happy to report that Idgie is back in the fold with no apparent signs of injury or distress.

We originally felt that perhaps she had jumped our fence somehow or simply wandered off when a door was inadvertently left open.  However, we discovered that one of the small storage containers we kept in the coop area had its contents dumped out on the ground, and the container, the lid and Idgie were all missing!  It doesn't take a detective (although we were very close to calling one!) to figure out that someone took her.  We cannot imagine a reason for this but we can imagine how it happened.

The BELL Garden chicken coop area is in need of major repairs and renovations in order to secure the girls from any and all predators, human and otherwise!  We would like to slightly enlarge the coop area, replace all the old, bent and broken fencing around and above the coop,  install additional corner posts, replace the doors and install rodent deterrents around the base of the enclosure.  All of this requires funds which we do not currently have available.  So we are asking the community to once again come together to help keep our girls safe!  We had such a tremendous response when Idgie went missing that we hope you will consider making a small donation so that we make the much needed repairs.
