One year ago, a beautiful, vibrant, & generous woman named Bella was diagnosed with a rare form of cartilage & bone sarcoma (chondrosarcoma) in a rib.
Last March, doctors removed the affected rib and everything looked great.
Unfortunately, the cancer has returned and is growing aggressively in other ribs and in her sternum.
Bella, her husband, and her two sons are looking for the best possible treatment from leading surgeons and physicians specializing in this type of cancer.
Doctors are preparing her for two or more weeks of radiation prior to surgery in an attempt to shrink the tumor.
OHSU Hospital is currently working with her.
MD Anderson Hospital in Houston, Texas has accepted her case. They treat more osteo-sarcoma, or bone cancer, patients than any other cancer center in the nation. In fact, they are one of the few teams in the world devoted to bone cancer, and patients have an 80% five-year event-free survival rate.
After this surgery, Bella will likely have several more operations for rib cage reconstruction, prostheses, etc. This may require travel overseas as doctors there have designed and perfected new treatments and solutions.
Because of the rapid growth and the proximity to the lungs, funding is needed immediately so she can schedule treatments as soon as possible.
Most of the treatment will not be covered by Bella's health insurance, especially since she will be going out of state and possibly outside of the country, so the funds will be very, very helpful; and perhaps lifesaving.
This is an urgent request; please help Bella get through this challenging time so she can return to her family and work.
