Bec's Gridiron World Cup dream
I am a 29 year old athlete. A Gold Coaster born and breed. I went to A.B. Paterson College and Griffith University here on the Coast. I am a full time private practice physiotherapist working with Back in Motion Health group. Originally a high/ long jumper, and over the last 4 years I have transitioned into full contact Women’s Gridiron! I play locally for the Gold Coast Stingrays, and have been a Queensland representative with the Sundevils and Brisbane Blaze. Gridiron as a Women's sport is very much so in it's infancy here in Australia, and I am so greatful and honoured to be apart of the first Australian Women's Gridiron team that puts gridiron on the map! This game has changed the course of my life, and I want other Women to seek and realise their full potential just the same!
Nothing that is truely great is ever going to be easy! And my journey is testiment to this. In the last 15 months I have sustained 2 severe ankle fractures, that left my lower limb disfigured...in an instant I was knocked to ground zero. 4 surgeries later! 2.5 months off work in hospital/ and immobile in total! The last surgery and week in hospital was 3 weeks out from the 7-day Australian trials... So that being said this journey has been physically, mentally and financially taxing…but it was a goal that I was not willing to fold on! I would like to think that this tells you about what kind of athlete and person I am; and what the realisation of this dream will mean to me.
Now with 3 months till we fly out; I would absolutely love your support in any way possible! This is a huge time for women’s sport in Australia, and I am humbled at the opportunity to be apart of that, but I would also like to be involved in the greater message across our community. So if there is a way that I can be involved, don't hesitate to contact me!
