Becoming Your Paramedic

Donation protected
To the one who sees this and wonders why,

When I was sixteen, I saved a life.  A boy not much younger than I went into cardiac arrest and I performed CPR, it was successful.  This boy made a full recovery and is living a better life because of it.  I had the opportunity to meet this boy and watch him grow into a young man. He's almost 20 now, and spreading awareness of the importance of learning CPR and living proof that CPR does indeed save lives.

(Link to a news article regarding this: http://www.frontiersman.com/news/palmer-women-honored-as-real-heroes/article_282e3116-d228-11e3-910a-0019bb2963f4.html )

That unfortunate circumstance is what brought me to where I am now: an EMT who has performed CPR 17 more times with 13 of those as successful as the first. The second chance given to this young man, and 13 others in my life has encouraged me to attend paramedic school to learn how to be the person that gives you the best chance of survival on your worst day-but I need your help.

Let me explain,  I am a single mom who is employed part time on an ambulance. Paramedic school is full time, high cost, and long hours are put into studying . Scholarships and grants cover some of the many costs, but not all of them. Your donation would allow me to start and complete the program so that I can serve your community more upon completed. EMT's have a limited scope of what they are able to perform and administer to patients. Paramedics have a large scope of practice that allow them to make a signifcant impact in life and death situations. I need become one so that I can have the ability to serve you, and your donations will help me.

As a paramedic, my job will be to respond to your emergency; to keep  calm and treat your symptoms that are, or could become life threatening. I will be there to talk to you, listen and calm you, and to stabilize you until you can get definitive hospital care. I will be there for your community, for your family, for your friends, and for you. My job impacts every part of your life, and I need your help to get there.

The picture is of my meeting the boy who I helped to survive.
