Bea Wolert Studio - Fire

Donation protected

I have been at a small single-story storefront studio located between a corner convenience store and a laundromat in Greenpoint, Brooklyn for 2 years. On October 15th, I received a call from the police stating the studio sustained a fire.

I ran over to a scene of damaged ceramic and porcelain dimensional wall pieces; damaged paintings, damaged textiles, damaged sculptures, damaged pottery, displaced display cases, destroyed supplies, waterlogged books, wood, tin metal, water and water-logged white insulation residue covering everything.  Smoke permeated and hovered in the air. I was shaken.

At the time we did not know the cause of the fire. Later it was revealed the cause was cigarette butts on the roof.

Luckily, no human lives were lost and luckily the entire storefront did not burn down to the ground.  Though I have insurance, it will only cover a portion of the damage incurred.

It's been over a month and the work is not complete. I need to pack, move my fine art into storage, move back in when the repairs to the studio are complete and resettle back in. I anticipate I will be settled back in fully sometime in the new year.

Many of you have asked what I need. You have offered your support in numerous ways: kind emails; lots of hugs; listening ears; advice; supplies; positivity and encouragement, and even suggesting this gofundme platform!

Now, I am turning to you, as my community of supporters, to continue to aid in my recovery and rebuilding efforts. Your support will go directly towards packing supplies, art handling fees, movers, storage fees, replacement supplies, ceramic firing fees to restore damaged works and fees to move back into studio. Contributions will also go towards photo  documentation and archiving of salvaged and undamaged works.

Please consider supporting me. Any level of contribution is most welcome and appreciated. And please help spread the word!
