Ironman Lake Placid Prize Purse

Winning an Ironman should not be a losing proposition.

Ultimate Frisbee. Speed Texting. Crossfit. Competitive Eating. Darts. Arm wrestling. These are all 'sports' with bigger prize purses than Ironman.

First place at Ironman Lake Placid wins $5000. 6th place gets $750. 7th place gets $0. First place is lucky to break even after accounting for travel and lodging costs. Most podium winners will be in the red. What a sport!

The free market has spoken and WTC pays what they must. Some argue that many pros are idiots for not racing events that pay better and pay deeper. That's a valid point. However, WTC has athletes with championship aspirations held hostage because they must accumulate a certain amount of points to race the 70.3 and 140.6 championships. We endeavor to bring shame upon Andrew Messick regarding WTC's horrible prize purses.

With your help, it would be our pleasure to hand a check to the 7th place finisher in both the men's and women's races. These professional athletes will otherwise lose money competing in one of the sports biggest and most prestigious races, and we should fix that.

Dark Mark, @Pay10Deep and The Real Starky will distribute all donations (minus gofund.me fees if they apply) directly to the athletes. If there is extra money, we will either increase payouts for other professional triathletes in this race or we will carry this over to another race. Obviously, you should be able to trust 2 anonymous triathlon pundits from twitter. If you are skeptical, rest assured that all donation results are public and I'm sure the recipient will be happy to verify their receipt of payment.

Thank you in advance for your support of professional triathlon racing.

P.S. Team TRS will be hosting a happy hour in Lake Placid where Dark Mark will be spectating and causing trouble. Follow @_dark_mark and @therealstarky for details. Please also follow co-sponsor @Pay10Deep.
