The Bathampton Meadows Alliance is a local community affiliation, of individuals and representatives of other bodies and groups, including Parish Councils and pressure groups. It is a not-for-profit and non-political group. We came together after 80 people spoke out against plans for a 1400-space park and ride car park on Bathampton Meadows at the B&NES full council meeting of November 2015. We have worked as a voluntary group ever since and welcome new members.
After two years of campaiging, B&NES council finally announced on 19th July 2017 that they were shelving plans for a park and ride on Bathampton Meadows.
This is clearly great news for the campaign and we welcome the decision. We also welcome the council Leader's statement that the Meadows will not be subject to development for the remainder of this term.
However our campaign will not be over until the land is given greater protection in perpetuity - we cannot go through this as a community every few years. Lasting protection is what we will continue to campaign for alongside an evidence-based approach to transport planning locally and regionally.
