George Thompson was born 06/07/1959, George turned 60 years old today as we are setting up this appeal. George has worked all his life as a gas fitter in marble fireplaces. He has never claimed benefits and has supported his wife and 5 children unaided, 4 sons and 1 daughter. He has been blessed with 5 grandchildren aging from 6 to 12.
On the 15th of August 2018 George was diagnosed with CHOLANGIOCARCENOMA (Bile duct cancer) which is a very rare and aggressive cancer, only 4,500 cases in the whole of the U.K. This cancer is incurable and he was told that life expectancy was 6 months. He started Chemo-gemzar-Cisplain over the Christmas period and responded well to the treatment, his Chemo Therapy ended in March 2019. The C.T scans showed that his tumours had shrunk by 25% so they were pleased with the result. He was off chemo therapy until June when another C.T. scan revealed that the cancer was growing again.
As this cancer is extremely rare there is no funding for research and treatment of this condition.
After a recent appointment at Christie's Hospital in Manchester George has been offered life saving treatment S.I.R.T (selective internal radio therapy) but the N.H.S will not fund this treatment. The cost for this life saving treatment is £25,000 which professor Valle has said he would be willing to proceed with this treatment for George as he is prime candidate.
To add to George's worries his only daughter who was 31 passed away very suddenly in June 2019 leaving behind his 6 year old Grandson.
His daughter was an organ donor and the lives of 3 people were saved Pancreas, liver and 2 kidneys, she has made 3 people,s lives better and other donations of hers are in storage for use when needed, this could mean that many more people's lives could benefit from the sad loss of George's Daughter.
