Bannock & Backpacks 2017

Donation protected

Hi!

We are the Indigenous Circle of Empowerment (ICE) from the University of Manitoba. ICE is a program where Indigenous students can practice their leadership skills and give back to the community.  Every year, we come up with a project that benefits the local community of Winnipeg.

This year, we are doing a continuation of our previous project Bannock and Backpacks where we run a donation drive to obtain gently used backpacks and purses. With those bags, we fill them with basic hygiene items like razors, feminie projects, shampoo etc.

The bannock part comes in with our cooperation with Althea Guiboche , founder of Got Bannock?. Together, we provide both food and the backpacks to the local homeless and individuals in poverty of Winnipeg.

An article to our previous project can be seen here.

Last year was successful with over 50 backpacks filled and distributed. This year, we are hoping to aim higher to further help the Winnipeg community.

All of the money donated will be used towards buying personal items such as socks, toothbrushes and underwear.

ICE will be executing thier project on March 19th so the deadline for donations will be March 15th

ICE's success is based on how many individuals we can reach out to even if it means providing a hot meal for a day and a warm blanket. All 13 team members of ICE will be thankful of your donations to our cause!

Marsi! Kinanaskomitin! Miigwech! Thank you!
