BAND OF RUNNERS TRAIL CAMP FOR VETERANS
WHO: The camp serves veterans and Gold Star spouses struggling to connect with their communities and challenged to be physically active. Elite and long-time trail runners, coaches and race directors from across the United States mentor the participants. Band of Runners designed and directed Team RWB’s highly respected National Trail Running Camp for the past five years.
WHAT: Multiple trail runs in the Blue Ridge Mountains with specialized instruction from elite trail runners covering training, technical trail running, hill running, running form, strength training, nutrition, first aid and blister care, and night running. Nutritious meals, campfires, storytelling, and fellowship included.
WHEN: Veterans Day Weekend, Nov. 10-12, 2017
WHERE: Summit Initiatives, a high-performance teaming and training facility near Fincastle, Virginia and the Appalachian Trail in the Blue Ridge Mountains.
WHY: We’ve been honored to successfully connect hundreds of veterans to the trail running community and foster friendships and empathy between runners from military and non-military backgrounds for the past five years with Team RWB. We want to continue to support veterans and survivors’ mental and physical health by opening the doors to the wonderful trail running community and getting them out into the wilderness and onto the trails.
HOW & HOW MUCH: We want this camp to be a project of the trail running community at large. One way to be a part of the project is to help fund the camp. You can also spread the word about our funding needs. We want to first raise $5000 to sponsor the free attendance of 20 military veterans and then another $5000 to cover the costs of bringing in world-class mentors and coaches -- the strategy we’ve used successfully the past five years that has had an important impact on veterans’ lives. Help us make this happen!
