Bali Dogs Sanctuary for Nusa Penida

WE HAVE NOW RAISED OVER $2,000 !!! A HUGE THANKS TO EVERYONE WHO HAS DONATED, SHARED, & HELPED IN ANY WAY.

Yes, over $2,000 - many people are donating directly into our account to save on fees, I also sell hand printed T-shirts and this money also goes into the fundraising account. We had 2019 Calendars but they are now sold out. I also have Healing Herbs Skin Cream for sale, again, this money all goes into the fundraiser to build the Sanctuary.

Watch this quick video on WHY we need the SANCTUARY and why we need it NOW

The Bali Dogs of Nusa Penida desperately need a sanctuary - somewhere the sick, starving & injured can be taken for treatment, love & recovery, as soon as possible.

Right now, there is nowhere. Over the past 12 months a considerable number of caring & compassionate humans (traveling from all over the world) have contacted me from the island with photos and details of dogs in immediate need of help -all with the same question: Where can I take this dog??!!

·     During my recent visit to Nusa Penida, in just the last 10 days, I have seen too many dogs dying in ditches, gutters, where ever they could drag themselves to die. Most likely hit by scooters, in pain, in distress.

·     Without even looking, I found too many starving and emaciated dogs, too weak to even scour for rice from the blessings.

·     Everywhere I went I saw puppies sitting floppy with bloated tummies (worm infested), ticks and glazed eyes on the side of the roads, dangerously close to bikes and cars.

We are so fortunate to have the amazing Kadek Widada on the island. Kadek is a qualified veterinarian doing an amazing job at servicing the 3 islands (Cenigan, Lombongan & Nusa Penida) but he is one man on a scooter and so always so busy already with his good work for all animals on the islands.

The dog sanctuary will not only provide a safe place for treatment and healing, but will also enable Kadek to come and treat many dogs in one session, rather than having to travel to find them, and often by the time he has arrived the dog has wandered off.

The land is all ready and waiting for this project, with the people to build it. Now all we need is the money to pay for the materials and labour to build a bungalow with a sheltered enclosure and run yard for the dogs in care. It will also cover the costs of food and medicine for the first 6 months.

The aim is for each dog to be neutered (where ideal), wormed, checked and fed.

I believe we can reach our target of $11,500 within 6 months. The sooner we can start, the sooner we can provide a much needed refuge for dogs in need of instant care and attention, to be kept safe and fed while healing.

The Bali Dogs are beautiful, soulful creatures, quite unlike any other dog I have enjoyed spending time with. To see these magnificent creatures suffering with no way to help is heart wrenching.

We can’t help every dog, but we can make a difference. And to those dogs, the difference is huge.

Above - When I found this dog in the market, she was so weak from starvation she couldn't lift her head to eat. After 3 days of food she could follow me for a few meters.

Above - Just one of many, sick and starving pups are common which is why neutering is so important.
Above - Kadek Widada with Fido, one very lucky dog about to be neutered and have a broken tooth removed.
Above - It's a hard life for these pups, and as cute as they may look while resting, they fight fiercely for any scraps of food they can find.

Can you spare two dollars? That's all it takes to make a difference. $2 here buys a really good chicken meal! And with enough people on board, Donating, Liking and Sharing, we will be able to achieve our goal, build the Sanctuary and provide health and welfare to dogs in need on Nusa Penida.

If you have any questions, thoughts, ideas, etc. I'd love to hear them. There is a lot of work and planning involved to ensure the success and benefit of this project and any help will be greatly appreciated and warmly received.
