Bald Is Beautiful- Cancer Awareness Fundraiser-- Klea's Hair Donation
My name is Klea Papuli. For Christmas 2016, my family and I were told that my grandfather was diagnosed with stage-three lung cancer (specific diagnosis was non-small cell lung adenocarcinoma). How is one suppose to react when they're told that someone they love, someone that helped raised them, their fishing partner, has a chronic disease that is slowly & painfully killing him? I was speechless when I found out; I felt helpless. But instead of letting that feeling take over, I decided to use that fire to ignite an inspiration to help others the best I could.
On March 4, 2017 I shaved the side of my head for cancer awareness in honor of my grandfather. But, I felt like it wasn't enough. I started watching YouTube videos of cancer patients & what caught my eye was childhood cancer patients; I can’t imagine what these little kids are going through. The bravery they hold going day-to-day through life battling with every fiber of their being to fight through the nausea, and lack of energy after going through chemo therapy. They became my inspiration & heroes. They have already gone through so much, and just want to feel "normal." My motive of shaving off all my hair came from wanting to spread awareness for the importance of cancer research, outreach, and being proactive in getting regular screenings. I also truly believe that making a little girl/boy's day better by easing a bit of their pain would bring me more fulfillment than "looking beautiful" with a full head of hair.
Children with Hair Loss is an amazing organization where they donate wigs for little boys and girls with medically related hair loss from cancer, alopecia, and trichotillomania. All of the children have received free wigs, which is why I am asking for your help. In order for those wigs to be created, not only is hair donation important, but funding is also important so that the families can continue to receive free of charge wigs. My goal is to raise $1,000 in order to sponsor a child. All donations will be given to this charity, so that if donations exceed my goal they will go toward funding to help sponsor another child. And that just means that now more children can have a smile on their face. =)
