Bakuhatsu Taiko Dan: Konjō

Hello,
We are Bakuhatsu Taiko Dan, a student-run, nonprofit organization at UC Davis dedicated to the art of taiko. Bakuhatsu is dedicated to promoting awareness and appreciation of Japanese culture throughout the community and its surrounding areas. Through teaching and performing, we bring the energy and art of taiko to those who have not yet had the opportunity to experience it. The word "Bakuhatsu" translates to "explosion," expressing the high energy of our performers on stage.
Ever since the club was founded in 2001, we have been performing at both small-scale and major events. The UC Davis New Student Celebration, Picnic Day, San Jose Obon, and JACL Annual Crab Feed are just a few examples of the many performances that we have participated in. We also host the annual Davis Cherry Blossom Festival at Sudwerk Brewery, where many people from the Davis community come to enjoy festivities and celebrate the coming of spring.
Since we are a nonprofit, student-led organization, the cost of maintenance for our equipment is one of the many obstacles our organization faces year after year. Last year our total maintenance and repair expenses amounted to about $3,000, which accounted for purchasing drum hides to replace broken drum heads, repainting our stands, and purchasing auxiliary and new drums.
On Saturday, May 4th, 2019, we will be hosting our 8th annual showcase: “根性(Konjō)”, which means “willpower.” During fall quarter, we lost valuable practice time due to the devastating fires in Northern California, which was detrimental to both the returning members as well as our newest members, Generation XVIII. However, with our will power, determination, and our deeply rooted passion for taiko, we are still striving for our best year yet!
We created this GoFundMe page in hopes of receiving your financial assistance to maintain our current equipment as well as to support our showcase. Our current goal for this year is $3,000. We understand that this is a large sum; however, every little bit counts and any donation amount that you can contribute would be greatly appreciated!
