Baking Workshop in Peru
Donation protected
Las Dulcecitas are low-income single moms that live in the small beachside town of Huanchaco, Peru. These moms have been attending a Baking Workshop for the past 4 months as part of an empowerment program that expands women's economic opportunities. The program is held at the local Comedor (soup kitchen) Juan Pablo II and is sponsored by OCN (Otra Cosa Network).
The Comedor's monthly budget is provided largely by sponsors from abroad and allows the women to buy groceries to cook a healthy breakfast and lunch for over sixty hungry children. The Comedor also provides the children and their mothers with a safe space where they can play, do their homework under the supervision of teachers, attend weekly workshops by psychologists, do crafts, or just have a nice chat with their friends.
Las Dulcecitas have been selling their pastries and sweet treats to support their families and the community. Now they need a proper environment where they can bake. We need your help to build a kitchen with a large oven, counter space, and baking materials such as bake trays, bowls, spatulas, mixers, etc. Currently their pans are stored in the sewing room. They prepare the pastries in one of the children's classrooms and bake in a small oven located in the dining area!
Finally, the Huanchaco municipality will issue a permanent sales permit granted the premises pass a sanitary inspection. So, you understand that without a proper baking environment, we have NO chance to transform Las Dulcecitas into a long- term community building and supporting effort.
We need your help to transform their dream into reality. Every donation, no matter how small, counts!
Know that with your support you are creating opportunities for low-income single moms and you are allowing them to dream a better future for themselves and their children.
