The day we brought home two beautiful new additions to our family, our girl Autumn and her sweet disinter, my parents’ girl, Bailey. Golden Retriever sisters inseparable since birth, our breeder knew right from the beginning that they had a special bond, she knew they were a very special pair of pups- and she was right.

Since 2012 they’ve celebrated every birthday and holiday together, lazy weekends to crazy fun filled adventures and everything in between. Bailey and Autumn have been there for us through the good and the bad, bringing our family more love, laughter and happiness then they’ll ever know.

On November 29th our world came crashing down when sweet Bailey was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor specifically an “intraventricular tumor with secondary obstructive hydrocephalus of the lateral ventricles”. Hearing these words completely took our breath away. It was a heart crushing pain that no one should ever have to endure. This happy, healthy girl was just chasing tennis balls in the backyard a few days before. We are devastated and completely heartbroken. Bailey and her sister just celebrated their 6th birthday together in September.

My parents, per the Neurologists advice, immediately started Bailey on Prednisone to keep her from falling. The Prednisone, coupled with supplements, CBD Oil and diet changes, made a world of difference and our happy girl was back to herself… for only one week. Unfortunately, Bailey is now showing signs of regression, stumbling, circling, and very lethargic. My parents have consulted with numerous doctors, their neurologist and oncologist and in an attempt to help shrink Bailey’s tumor, and give her a chance to live her best life possible, they’ve decided to move forward with Radiation Therapy at Angell Memorial in Boston.

Because now time is of the essence, Bailey is going to undergo Stereotactic Radiation-which is a higher dose of radiation administered in 3-4 consecutive visits.  She has a CT scan scheduled for tomorrow, Christmas Eve. They will then begin her radiation planning/testing and, if all goes well, she will undergo her first treatment on Thursday, December 27th.

This integrated treatment plan of traditional and holistic approaches, together with seeking the best care possible for Bailey, understandably comes with a very high cost. She is so young and deserves the chance to live her best life possible. As long as Bailey is happy, maintaining a great quality of life and continuing to fight, so will we. My parents, sister and I are completely overwhelmed and so very grateful with the outpouring of love from all over the world, the calls and messages, candles lit and all the prayers for our sweet Bailey. Unfortunately, my parents do not have any pet insurance to help cover the expense of Bailey’s medical costs and they would never ask anyone for help, which is why my sister and I have started this page.

We would be forever grateful for any donation you would be able to make to help defer some of the medical costs they are facing. Any amount is so deeply appreciated, as is any prayer or share of this page. As any dog lover knows, our pups are family and they mean the world to us. Please hug your fur babies for us and remember not to let a day go by without telling those you love just how much they mean to you.

We wish you all a wonderful holiday season and from the bottom of our hearts, we thank you. Please keep Bailey in your prayers as she begins her radiation treatments this week. We will continue to share updates on this page.

Thanks so much,

Jen and Kathryn

We wanted to give everyone an update on sweet Bailey. It’s been a little over 2 months since her last radiation treatment and just a little over 2 weeks since Bailey officially came off of her Prednisone! This was a huge milestone for Bailey (and us!) as she’s been on this medication since first being diagnosed with a brain tumor last November. Weaning off of this medication wasn’t easy, along the way Bailey had a couple setbacks, lots of tummy issues and her doctors had to re-adjust her medication (which meant we had to start the weaning process all over again!) but as of March 6th she is officially done!

Now that she is completely off of her medication, she is currently working on transitioning from kibble to a raw diet. This new diet will help her meet her nutritional needs and potentially help in slowing down the tumor’s growth. She is still taking CBD oil daily along with her Chinese herbal supplements. Over the last week we’ve noticed a considerable increase in her energy level, she’s been so happy and she’s also putting a few pounds back on as she lost a lot of weight during her treatment.

We can’t thank everyone enough for all the continued love, prayers and messages asking for sweet Bailey and how she’s doing ❤️ We’re going to ask for your prayers once more as Bailey’s MRI is scheduled for this Wednesday, 3/27. We’re holding our breath until then as this is when we’ll see exactly how successful her radiation treatment was. We will be sure to post another update at the end of the week, praying for good news

❤️ Jen

Hi friends! We wanted to give you an update on Bailey as it’s been 18 days since her last radiation treatment. She met with her oncologist yesterday for her post-radiation appointment and she is doing wonderful! We see her continually improving with each day, she has much more energy and she’s much happier! She hasn’t fallen in days, she chases her tennis ball and even does the stairs (with supervision!) Her oncologist was so pleased with how well she is doing that she cleared Bailey to begin weening off her prednisone. We will need to keep a close eye on her while she is coming off her medication to be sure she doesn’t show signs of regression. In the meantime, the radiation is still working to shrink the tumor, so in a few weeks Bailey is scheduled to meet with her neurologist again to have a repeat MRI done. We will be holding our breath until then as this scan will tell us exactly how successful her radiation treatment was!

We can’t thank you all enough for all the love and support over the last few months. Your continued prayers, sharing of this page and donations mean so much to my family and I as Bailey’s medical costs still continue to increase. It’s so amazing to see our sweet girl back and happy again! I will continue to share updates on Bailey in the next few weeks and will absolutely keep you all updated when she goes in for her next MRI. In the meantime, remember to “enjoy the little things in life, for one day you’ll look back and realize they were the big things”.

We’re 3 days post-radiation now and so far sweet Bailey is doing amazing! She’s still on her prednisone (which is making her very hungry!) and my parents have also started her back on her CBD oil as well. She’s still pretty tired from her treatment but so much more alert, active and most importantly, she’s much happier! Today on our walk, Bailey made it around the entire block! When we got home she chased her tennis ball a couple times in the backyard before coming back inside to rest. We’re taking it day by day and celebrating each and every little victory!

Over the last few days Bailey’s been doing much better on the stairs too. Outside she’s able to go up and down the back steps without slipping. My mom has been sleeping in the living room with her for the last month, and last night Bailey made it to the second floor with assistance. She did have a bit of trouble coming back down, so we will wait and try that again after she builds up a little more confidence and strength.

A sweet friend’s family just returned home from Prague and she shared some of the holy water they brought back with Bailey. She came over yesterday, put some over the top of Bailey’s head and said a prayer. My mom had tears in her eyes. We can’t thank you all enough for the continued support, love and prayers. They mean everything to us. I will continue posting updates on Bailey’s journey and let you all know how her post-radiation appointment goes.

Wishing everyone a happy, healthy New Year!

❤️Jen

Radiation day #3, this girl is a fighter! Every day, when the tech would come to take Bailey to be prepped for her treatment, my mom would have to walk with her to the door and coax her in the room. Poor Bailey gets anxious very easily. Not today though- the tech came to get Bailey and she pranced down the hall with her, without even so much as a glance back at my mom! She either knew this was her last treatment, or she knows how much the radiation has been helping. Either way, this brave girl rocked her final treatment!!! Once her anesthesia was worn off enough, she was cleared to go home proudly sporting her new #CANCERCHAMP bandana!

She was still pretty sleepy this afternoon, which the tech said was normal. It may take a couple of days for the anesthesia to fully leave her system. We can already see an amazing improvement though! On Christmas Day poor Bailey wouldn’t even lift her head, and tonight she greeted us at the door, with her tail wagging, giving all the kisses! She was even begging for food!

We will continue to monitor Bailey for the next couple weeks before she goes in for her post- radiation appointment. The radiation should continue to shrink the tumor over the next couple months and Bailey will have another MRI to see exactly how much it’s been reduced.

Until then, we ask for your continued prayers and support that Bailey keeps moving in the right direction. We truly believe that the collective power of love and prayer have helped Bailey to get to where she is today and I absolutely know it has helped us as well. We are forever grateful for all of your prayers, shares and each and every donation. We really have some amazing people in our life. Thank you, thank you!!

I will continue to post updates leading up to her post-radiation appointment and her next MRI.

❤️Jen
