Send Bailey to UMN for Cancer Treatment Trial

Donation protected
Bailey has just been accepted to a clinical trial for cancer treatment at the University of Minnesota! They have developed a special targeted drug (eBAT) that has so far shown very positive results in prolonging the lives of dogs with hemangiosarcoma (living YEARS as opposed to months!).  They estimate the cost being around $8000. We are trying to raise as much as we can to help cover the cost of her treatment as well as travel arrangements to get her to and from Minnesota for 8 days starting on April 24th.

To give some backstory, Bailey was diagnosed with hemangiosarcoma at the age of 3 back in July of 2018. The prognosis was 2 months without treatment and 6-9 months with treatment. She had surgery (amputation to remove the tumor from her leg), chemo, and immunotherapy in addition to countless supplements.

We celebrate every milestone and have enjoyed crossing items off of her bucket life (such as, "meet a donkey", "go to the snow", "visit Santa", "sniff everything") and she most recently celebrated 8 months since diagnosis! She gets scanned every 8 weeks and so far there has been no spread of disease (the cancer has not returned or metastasized).

Now the part no one wants to talk about - time. Bailey's prognosis was 6-9 months and we're just past the 8 month mark. That means there is a very strong chance her cancer will return very very soon. The most promising treatment out there is eBAT. Dogs in the first eBAT trial are still alive 4 - 5 YEARS after diagnosis! To give you some perspective, normally less than 10% of dogs with hemangio make it one year and most are gone within weeks to months.

Between the surgery and the chemo, scans and medicine, we have already spent well over $30,000 on Bailey since July. Our monthly expenses for Bailey average around $2000.  We had not budgeted for this added expense (because we thought we had run out of ways to treat her) but we don't want her to miss out on the opportunity to be a part of this trial.

Any amount that you're able to pitch in would go a very long way towards helping Bailey. We're so grateful to have found such a wonderful community of Tripawds, Berners and of course our friends and family.

Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts for helping Bailey. As we say, she's the sweetest, kindest, "bestest" dog. She is so young and in such great spirits - she doesn't know she has cancer. Let's help her live as long as possible as the happy fun-loving dog that she is!
