Bailey's Vet Bills

Donation protected
Hi guys,
This is my sweet wee Bailey

And below is her at 2 days old, weighing in at only 1 pound, her entire body fitting in just my palm, yet, she filled my heart so very full .

Each year since, she has grown by exactly 1 pound! At age 2 she weighed 2 pounds

and age 3 was 3 pounds

She turned 4 this past January and she now weighs in at a whopping 4 pounds! It's pretty funny how her weight has equalled her age right on through the years. To tell you the truth, I am in denial that she's 4 pounds!!!! I want her to stay tiny (yes, I know that's still so tiny). But as I look at her recently, I think she's back down to 3 pounds. So, I'll have to get her weighed again.

Over the last 2.5 years, Bailey has had many struggles and obstacles, which means we've both had stress, and I've had some seriously high vet bills.  She also is very stubborn and I had the expense of obedience school.

Her first medical struggle began when she received her adult teeth without loosing her baby teeth. Then she did loose some of the baby teeth but not all of them, and plaque grew in-between the rows as I could not get in between to brush them. This resulted in her needing to have the remaining 5 baby teeth pulled, and a full dental cleaning done.

She broke her front paw when a metal doggy play pen fell on her.

Now2 years later, she still sometimes shows signs of a sore paw and during the cold winter months, she lifts it up, so the vet believes she has some arthritis in it.

Shethen had another dog charge at her which cause her hind leg to dislocate. This again involved another emergency visit to the vet. Oh yes, also at age 2, when we were visiting my dad; she had a full out seizure....she was flailing around and it was very scary for us all. This again caused another emergency vet visit and more meds. As a result of that, poor Bailey was diagnosed with anxiety. To this day, she still suffers from it and I have to keep her calm when she starts to really shake, to prevent another seizure from happening.

Inthe spring of 2017,  Bailey started itching really bad. The vet tried her on meds, and unfortunately they didn't work. She had to wear the cone of shame because she was scratching herself raw and had open wounds. The vet tried a 2nd medication and it gave her some relief but not much and it caused her to dream a lot, so again the cone remained on, and the meds discontinued.

3rd medication gave some relief but she still suffered.   She also at this time went into a false heat. The vet explained that her hormones were out of wack and that her body thought she was in heat, but she really wasn't. It was thought she possibly was pregnant, but I refused the ultrasound as I knew she wasn't because Bailey is never out of my sight when outside. The vet explained that the itching and discomfort she felt was more than likely hormonal and she suggested that they perform the surgery to spay her. I debated this as she was now 3 years, and I was considering breeding her....and she's just so tiny that any sedation is high risk. The vet still stressed that given her small size, and her scratching, that she'd be best spayed, and that it cuts down the risk of some cancers. So, I went ahead and had them perform the surgery. This photo is her right after the surgery. Her poor blood filled mouth and tongue hanging out.  Also has the IV still in her paw

This photo is her a few days after surgery. She is in a baby premie onesie that I had to make smaller as even that was too big for her. It was important she wear this, to prevent her from getting at her incision. The vet wasn't able to find one small enough, so had suggested the premie onesie.

Ithas now been several months since her surgery, and she still itches. So, all this time, she's still on medication, and now on a vet dental food and a special toothpaste and gum gel. And, to top it all off....since the surgery, she now suffers from Collapsed Trachia. So when she gets excited, she struggles to catch her breath. I strongly believe this happened when the vet sedated her and had the tube down her throat, but of course the vet says that is not the case and is just a coincidence.

Bailey and I just met with the vet this week, and it was an emotional visit for me. Who cries at the vet???? This girl!!!!

Starting this Sunday, Bailey is going to be on a 2 month strict vet food trial. She is to eat the vet allergy food, and nothing else. Not even a crumb of human food, or other dog foods/treats, as a crumb is huge to wee Bailey!

Shealso is needing a vet allergy toothpaste. And, her medication dosage has been increased yet again.

She may now also need more blood work to determine the cause of her itching, and my bank account is saying enoughs enough! We are trying the food trial first.

Thevet also suggested she may need injections of an allergy medication every 1-2 months, along with oral pills.

I did a quick add up of the unscheduled vet expenses for Bailey, and I've spent $6000  ....that's just in emergency vet visits, surgeries, and medications...and that's just in the past 2 years.

I have set up this go fund me account with the goal to reach out to family and friends and the general public, for help to keep Bailey healthy and come to the root of her itching, without me going broke!

Bailey and I would appreciate any donation you can spare. If every one of our FB friends were to donate just $1 then we would reach our goal to recover even just a portion of my vet expenses.

Pleaseconsider clicking the link to donate.

I'd like to look into having Bailey spread her love and generosity even further by becoming certified to go and visit public places such as retirement homes, hospitals and schools. She loves to put a smile on people's faces and she's tiny enough to lay in even the weakest or smallest of laps. She is non allergenic, however, before I'd take her in to visit elders, I'd like to discover the root of her itching.

I hope this story and photos have given you some insight into some of the  obstacles we have faced. Dispite her health struggles, and my financial strains, she really has opened up my heart to feel a love and appreciation to animals that I've never felt before. She's my world. I tell her daily that she is my #1 .  We both thank you in advance for your kindness. Even just $1 will help us out, as it all adds up.  xoxo
