Mike and Steph Merrill are doing something a little different for Christmas this year....
Our family are giving each other gifts of backpacks filled with a hat, gloves, socks and toiletries that we will then be taking to Chester Aid to The Homeless for them to be distributed to people who really NEED a gift. I have priced a complete backpack at £17.58, with the itemised list below (based on 50 backpacks). If you know of any individual or company that might be able to source these items cheaper or you think they might want to sponsor a backpack (100% tax deductible), then please forward this information to them.
· 25 litre backpack: £7.85
· Insulated gloves: £3.79
· Insulated hat: £2.74
· Thick socks: £0.91
· Pack of wipes: £0.58
· Shampoo/shower gel/soap set: £1.00
· Toothbrush and paste set: £0.16
· Comb: £0.31
· Haribo sweets: £0.24
Total: £17.58
Alternatively, if you would usually plan on getting our family a Christmas card or little gift – please consider donating or sponsoring one of these items instead. We will be putting a handwritten note with each backpack saying something along the lines of:
‘This backpack has been especially put together just for you on behalf of ........... who are thinking about you.’
We plan on putting the backpacks together during the first week in December, and will then be taking them to Chester Aid to The Homeless (cath.org.uk) so that they can give them out to those in need. When I spoke to a chap at the centre recently to find out exactly what they needed, he told me that 43 people had used their services at the day centre THAT MORNING!
If you would consider brightening someone’s Christmas time by helping those really in need, then we would be delighted to do all of the leg work.
