Bad Apple's Replacement Window Fund

Donation protected
On a cold Friday night in December, I received the very exciting news that someone had driven their vehicle into the shop. Nathaniel and I rushed to the scene of the accident. A DUI collision had pushed an SUV through the front window of Bad Apple, placing the car just a couple feet into the shop. Luckily, nobody was seriously injured.

The next day would be the beginning of a long battle between insurance companies. At first, the shop’s landlord offered to take care of the broken window but he backed out after learning the cost. There were two vehicles involved in the accident, and because the damages from the victim’s vehicle reached the limit for the drunk driver’s insurance, the shop is left to fend for itself. That means that Bad Apple had to file a claim with our own insurance company and cover the cost of the window replacement. Fortunately, my insurance coverage did take care of the damages inside of the shop—along with the temporary window boarding; however, the permanent window replacement is coming out of my pocket.

Many of you may know my story, but for those who don't: I started Bad Apple Vntg with my own savings and a couple personal credit cards. After getting rejected for countless loans from banks (due to my short credit history), I bit the bullet at 21 years old and decided to open a business with my own cash. I worked long hours, saved up, budgeted, and self-disciplined until I had the capital to open the shop. With the support of my friends and the Reno community, Bad Apple has been open for 3 years now and I’m so grateful and humbled by the love we’ve received.

As much as I’d like to have an extra $1,200 lying around, to pay for somebody else’s mistake—I don’t right now. An unexpected expense like this would be a bit setback for the shop, and for my personal life, so I’m asking the community to help me raise this money and help Bad Apple bounce back from this awful accident.

If I am fortunate enough to raise more than $1,200, I will donate the rest of the money to MADD, Mothers Against Drunk Driving to help support their preventative programs and further educating folks on the dangers of drunk driving.

Thank you for taking the time to read my story and for donating if you can.
