Backseat Baby Alarm 2

$12,000 goal

Campaign created 5 months ago
I'm an amateur inventor seeking help from the public to have 1,000 units of my invention produced. My invention, the Backseat Baby Alarm 2,  is a device to prevent hot car infant deaths.  It is a vastly improved version of my proven original that I funded myself.  That was in the summer of 2015.  At that time, I was able to fund and bring it to the market using my own money as my manufacturer gave me a very special break and lowered their minimum order of 1000 units to 250.  I risked a big chunk of what little savings I had get that first batch made, and that was after spedning a lot to get multiple experimental protrotypes built (very expensive!) It took 2 years to sell all those units even though I thought the price was extremely reasonable - $19.00 at first and then I raised the price to $29 when I got on Amazon to cover their cut.  It was a good learning experience. Learned a lot from the mistakes I made. I did not give up. I went back to the drawing boards and was able to come up with a new version of my unit that is cheaper to produce, has vastly improved functionality, and much, much easier to install than the original. Wish I had come up with this new version in the first place but that's how the inventing business goes.

The reason I am turning to the public fo help now instead of funding  on my own is that the manufacturer of the Backseat Baby Alarm 1  will now only accept a minimum order of 1000 units of the Backseat Baby Alarm 2. I just don't have the financial resources to come up with that kind of money.

If you look at my website for the "old" Backseat Baby Alarm, the improvements include full auto turn-off instead of the manual turn off, 4 less wires to install, a volume dial, and a "snooze" button that the parent can tap to temporarily silence the chime from going off if they are afraid the child will be awakened. These are all things that I incorporated due to the feedback I got from those that purchased the original.

I turned to GoFundMe after I saw a 10 year old in Texas was able to raise $48,000 for his idea for the same problem. It kinds of makes me want to tear my hair out as his invention from what I can tell  only seems to consist  of a lump of clay. Happy for him and truly wish he succeeds. Unfortunately I am not that cute. I don't have the kind of charming backstory that appeals to people. I am just hoping people will see that I am a serious amateur inventor who has worked his butt off to bring something to the market that is real and can really make a difference.

It is tempting to just give up - but I am going to give it one last shot. These deaths don't have to go on.
