Backpacks for Cabo Rojo

It’s been almost a year since Hurricane Maria hit, devastating many islands including Puerto Rico. A motherland to many of us. Even a year later, Puerto Rico is struggling and going without every day necessities.
A friend of mine, Chaylene Fernández, inspired me to do my part. With a new school year approaching she had this great idea to organize a charity where she can raise money to buy school supplies for the children of Orocovis. This is her family’s hometown in Puerto Rico! She was able to raise enough money to send over 50 backpacks full of supplies for students going back to school.
I decided, with Chaylene’s blessing, that I would piggyback her idea and do the same for my family’s hometown. Cabo Rojo, Puerto Rico ❤️
I thought it would be great to reach out to the school my grandmother attended as a young girl. However, like many other schools in Puerto Rico, Manuel Fernandez Juncos School has been shut down! I spent a few hours trying to get in contact with schools in Cabo Rojo, and it seemed as though no one was there to answer. Until of course, Ingrid, from Escuela Carlota Matienzo answered my call!
This is where everyone else comes in! School starts August 13th, and my goal is to send at least 50 back packs of supplies to the students of Carlota Matienzo. The director, Richard Cruz, was overjoyed and said “Anything at all that can be donated is appreciated. These kids really need it.”
A little love goes a long way! So please anything that you can contribute would be great! Just $5 alone can buy a couple of notebooks, pencils and some pens. Let’s give these parents and children one less thing to worry about.
