Back to the Bush Koala Rehab

Donation protected

Our good friends, Timothy, Kristin Doust and their kids now live in Australia (they are the family we got Carolyn’s horse Teak from). Kristin is a wildlife veterinarian in Queensland Australia and recently the vet clinic she works at her has been overwhelmed with injured and orphaned animals due to the wildfires over there.

As a way to help, their family has taken in 3 abandoned baby Koalas... raising them until they are old enough to be released back into the Wild. Unfortunately because of the Wildfires in Australia right now, there is a HUGE need for a safe place for many more orphaned baby Koala to be able to safely grow up - and learn how to climb and find food on their own.

The challenge is that right now in Australia there isjust not a safe place for the overwhelming amount of orphaned babies to grow up because of all of the fires and devastation. The Doust Family not only has a heart for helping the Koala - but they also have acreage that can be converted into a Koala Sanctuary!

So the goal of this fund-raiser is to raise enough money ($20,000) to help to get these babies back to the wild by donating to fund an enclosure built specifically to house them safely while they learn to climb.

We want to offer Koala babies by providing them with a safe environment while they are waiting for their home to recover from devastating fires. Please help us save more Koala babies!

Here are some photos and information on the three babies they are currently fostering.

EDWARD:

This is a photo of one of the babies they are currently fostering named “Edward.” He was found abandoned by his mother, sitting at the bottom of a tree. His development is slower than it should be and he needs help climbing trees. Having a safe place to practice climbing will be paramount for getting him back to the wild.

MANGO:

This is Mango. He was thrown from his mother by another male. He was emaciated and starving, because the area he came from was lacking in food. His mother was thin and had no milk and was not caring for him. He is a great climber and should do great in the wild one day. He needs lots of trees to climb in a safe environment.

SABRE:

This is Sabre. He was found unable to climb, separated from his mother. He had multiple skull fractures probably from falling out of a tree. He needs a safe environment to learn to climb.

SANCTUARY AREA THAT NEEDS FENCING:

This is the first group of trees that will be fenced to prepare the babies to re-enter the bush giving them valuable real life experience in a safe and controlled environment
