Back to School in the Kashmir Valley

Donation protected
"The valley of Kashmir has been witnessing mass and sporadic protests. This instability is not new to the region, which has experienced long-periods of turmoil since 1987.

Post July 2016, the government imposed a complete curfew in ten districts for 51 consecutive days followed by intermittent curfews and restriction of movement in certain districts. Non-state groups launched a strike leading to the shutdown of 10 districts that lasted till late November. The estimated number of children affected by the disruption of basic services (education, primary health and local administration) is 2.7 million. A relative normalization of the region has been observed since March 2017 with the reopening of schools. However sporadic protests have led to violent clashes between demonstrators and government forces leading to the killing of children and many reported cases of pellet and bullet injuries. Exposure to violent events has resulted in hundreds of thousands of children growing in an environment in which widespread violence of traumatic nature is the norm." - Tahmeed Mir, Activist and Educator

Please help me raise money for my friend and activist Mir, who has already set up a library for Kashmiri children. He now wants to further his dreams, and establish a safe space for children where they can explore the world of art and music. He also wants to provide them support and counseling and encourage them to pursue their career dreams.

You can get in touch with me ([email redacted]) or Tulika ([email redacted]) or Mir ([email redacted]) for further questions.

Thank you!
