We are headed back to Japan, to adopt another child!! Here's a little summary of our adoption journeys, for those who don't know us super well :)
We are the Born family. In the summer of 2014 we decided we wanted to start our family through adoption. We were ecstatic. We were also naive, hopeful, and endlessly determined. The process took us on a roller coaster of emotions. It was an adventure that required support from others both financially and emotionally.
Over the course of the next three years we had a US adoption agency close their doors and take our money. We had multiple placements with birth-parents that fell through. And at one point we even flew down to Florida, held a baby, named a baby, and after the birth parents changed their minds, we came home with an empty baby carrier. Over those three years we cried, we grew, we prayed, we sought comfort in our friends, family and each other.
In 2016, we had invested so much time, money, and heart into adopting a child we weren’t quite ready to give in, but we did feel prompted to change direction. Instead of adopting from the United States, we decided to turn to Japan. Four months later, February 2017, we were blessed with a little girl. And-oh my word- it’s been incredible.
We didn’t know we could love the way we love her, we didn’t know that all the pain and tears we cried would be worth it. One thousand times over. And so, we’re doing it again!
We want our family to grow some more, and we are deciding to adopt baby Born number 2. Follow along with us, pray with us, and cry with us. Hopefully this time more happy tears than sorrowful ones.
