Back surgery for "Ant" the cat

Yesterday I awoke to find my best friend and companion of 11 years was in obvious pain. "Ant" was unsteady on his feet, barely able to walk, and couldn't lift his head. I immediately headed to the emergency vet only to discover that he had severely herniated a disc in his back, requiring surgery to correct the injury. He is currently on pain meds, and anti-inflammitory medications as we await treatment.
Ant has been with me since he was 4 weeks old, a rescue from the SPCA. He's been a loving companion and the only constant in my life for the last 11 years. He's my best friend, and my family.
Blood work has shown that he is the picture of health for his age (other than his spinal injury of course) with no signs of thyroid problems, luekemia, or diabetes. In essence: He has a lot of life left to live, and love left to give.
The sooner he can get the surgery, the better his chances are. The next 48 hours being the best possible outcome. Unfortunately I find myself between jobs at the moment, and my savings only cover about 75% of the cost of surgery. The only upside to being un-employed is that I will be by his side to help in his recovery 24/7.
If he doesn't get the surgery he will be living in constant pain, and I can't stand the idea of him suffering a moment longer than he has to. The only merciful option being an obvious one that I can't bring myself to type here.
I'm desperate to save my boy, my best friend, my companion. Honestly this is an act of desperation, that I don't really expect to work out, but I had to try: for his sake and mine. Anything is appreciated, even thoughts and prayers for Ant.
He's the sweetest, kindest, companion and doesn't deserve to suffer, or to have his life cut short. I'm prepared for the worst, but hoping for a miracle.
