8 month old Tahlea Dalgety is fighting for her life in the Perth Children’s Hospital after contracting Meningococcal W disease, in October 2018.

The baby girl from Geraldton had been playing in the park with her brother and sister, on Tuesday the 16th of October. She became unwell that night. Her mum Chelsea, awoke to a loud piercing scream from Tahlea’s room. She ran in and picked her up, to find she was pale, having a hard time breathing and had two purple dots on her forehead.

She rushed her to the Geraldton Regional Hospital only 4 minutes from their house. After close observation, doctors put Tahlea on a Royal Flying Doctor’s flight to Perth where she has been receiving around the clock emergency care at the Perth Children’s Hospital ever since.

Her parents have now been told Tahlea will lose her fingers and toes, may lose some limbs and has suffered severe brain damage. Her family has had to relocate to Perth and are living in temporary accommodation near the hospital. The family of five are currently borrowing a car from a family member after their own car's engine exploded. They are without jobs in Perth and Tahlea's dad has had to put his job in Geraldton on hold. They have been told that Tahlea will need numerous operations, a wheelchair, prosthetics, and a lifetime of therapy. She has a very long road to recovery ahead of her. Tahlea will even have to spend her first Christmas and first birthday in hospital.

This young family is devastated, exhausted and the emotional and financial stress is overwhelming. They would do anything to ensure their little girl gets the best care possible.

If you would like to donate to assist in Tahlea’s ongoing operations and specialised care it would mean so much to the family. Any size donation is very much appreciated.
