Baby Kottenstette’s Heart Fund

$7,480 of $2,000 goal

My husband and I have had the privilege to know Kylan and Lisa Kottenstette as individuals, a dating couple, an engaged couple, married friends, and all of these years later we find ourselves young parents together.  Lisa and I were pregnant together with our first borns, and again were pregnant together for our second babies.

Right after Christmas 2017, Kylan and Lisa found out that their second baby "K" has Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome. This is a congenital heart defect that will require him or her to have surgery within the first week of life, a second surgery around three to six months, and a third surgery around age three to four.  You can read more about the diagnosis at http://www.heart.org/HEARTORG/Conditions/CongenitalHeartDefects/AboutCongenitalHeartDefects/Single-Ventricle-Defects_UCM_30737_Article.jsp#mainContent

Right after birth, Kylan and Lisa will only have a few hours with Baby K until he or she will need to go to the NICU for monitoring and preparation for the first surgery.  Lisa will be discharged from the hospital a day or two after delivery, but Baby K will remain at Presbyterian St Luke's for surgery and post operative recovery. This is an anticipated stay of four to six weeks total. During this time, Kylan and Lisa, along with two year old daughter Karalee, will be staying at the Ronald McDonald house.

As you all know, when you're away from home, even for the weekend, costs add up quickly.  The Ronald McDonald house is a charitable organization where families of children in need of hospitalizations can stay for a reduced cost-$20 a day will provide Kylan, Lisa and Karalee lodging and one meal a day.

Between the fee for the Ronald McDonald House, has for getting around, the other two meals a day, snacks for Karalee, not to mention healthy snacks for hungry new mama- the cost of their day to day will add up. This will be the first of many stays for them as they continue on this journey,

If you feel it on your heart to shower Baby K with love, donate to this fund to support the Kottenstette Family as they welcome him or her into their family and into this world-special heart and all.

So happy we got to see Kylan and Lisa and meet sweet strong baby Jace!

We had a small but scary setback yesterday. Jace was having a hard time breathing and his coloring did not look good. They were able to find fluid around his lungs that wasn't letting him breath deeply so they went in with a tube and drained it. This took some pressure off the lungs and they put him on a high flow of oxygen to open the lungs back up. The goal for today is to ween him back off the high flow so he can resume eating. Thanks for all your support and prayers.

Jace is doing great. They took him completely off oxygen at 10pm yesterday and his levels have held strong. They removed the drain tubes and pacing wires from his chest today. He started taking a bottle better and they upped the amount again today. He took the entire 21ml without any problems and are hoping his appetite continues. God is so good.

The doctors and everyone just completed rounds. His oxygen levels, blood pressure, profusion, heart rate, and respirations are all exactly where they should be. His lactate level is dropping slowly and was last at a 4.2. We still want that to drop. Fluid is still draining consistently and they are planning on closing his sternum tomorrow. We didn't intend to sleep in the room last night but fell asleep for the night. Lisa says she slept good so that's good news as well. The goal for Jace is to just stay comfortable and stable and allow the lactate to go down and more fluid to drain before they close him up.He opened his eyes this morning and was looking around and making small other movements.
