Keep Ashram Solar Serving Visitors

Tax deductible
The Haidakhandi Universal Ashram in Crestone, CO was established in 1986 and runs in accordance with Haidkhan Babaji’s teachings, which are to live lives of truth, simplicity, love, service to humanity, and constant remembrance of the Divine. We are grateful to say, that early in our 30-year history, we chose to live simply on this land stay off the grid.

By the grace of the Divine and generosity of many people, we have managed to build a lovely Ashram that welcomes thousands of people each year. It is situated on 101 acres of pristine land and it has been built in as sustainable way as we were able, given that we live at nearly 8,500 feet altitude in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains (part of the Rocky Mountains). Our buildings are predominantly straw bale, with one earthship (used tires packed with earth). All utilize solar for heat and energy, we also have our own gravity-feed water system from the blessed and pure Spanish Creek that flows on the south border of our property.

We have a dormitory where visitors can stay and be part of our daily practice. The dormitory runs on an outdated 17-year old solar system and needs an upgrade to accommodate the growing number of visitors. We will be re-purposing the inverter and some of the existing solar panels from the earthship, which is getting a new solar system, to make our project more cost effective.

The water in the dormitory comes from our gravity-feed system, which is currently treated with chlorine. We are looking for a better way to treat our water and move away from chlorination. Using a UV Filtration system is another important goal of this project. This also requires a solar system upgrade.

We need your help in keeping the Ashram off-grid and sustainable. We have always tried to minimize the use of chemicals by serving organic food and using biodegradable products; therefore, we would like to eliminate the use of chlorine for water treatment. As solar technology has improved and become more affordable, we can now take the steps to improve the dormitory, so we can serve each of you better. We truly appreciate your support.
