Fire Recovery

Dear Family and Friends,
Last year my partner Peter and I put our hearts, souls, lots of time, and the money I had inherited from my dad’s passing into an extensive upgrade of our home in Kenwood. We had just finished it when the Tubbs/Nuns Fire burned it completely to the ground. We are so fortunate that we had moved out during the remodel, but it is still a very devastating emotional and financial loss for us.
Unfortunately, we have been informed that even though we will be reimbursed for our loss, it will be far less than what it will cost to reconstruct the house. We will not be compensated for the seven months of wages that Peter lost while he worked full time on this house, or any of the new building materials, appliances, etc. Reimbursement will take time. Coordinating with the many agencies involved will take time. It will be months before we can think about clearing the site, securing permits, and rebuilding. We are feeling completely overwhelmed by the loss and the logistics of managing the recovery effort.
We have an immediate need. The fire was so hot that even areas of our retaining wall collapsed and when it rains, soil and toxins from the steep hillside our house was built on, run directly across the road and into our nearby creek. Certainly from an environmental standpoint, we don’t want this to happen. Furthermore, we have been informed that we may face fines, if we do not remedy this run off problem before the serious rains begin.
I have never reached out for financial assistance of any kind, and take pride in having always supported myself, however we could really use a little help now. We would be very thankful if you could help us raise the money to build a new retaining wall.
