                                           Chapter Highlights
The Houston Graduate Chapter of Groove Phi Groove Social Fellowship, Inc. is an IRS approved 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Our mission is to provide community leadership and mentoring to teens and young adults about the benefits of education.  Each year, we seek needy but qualified individuals to award financial scholarships that will help them achieve their goal of a college education. The Houston Graduate Chapter continues its work by providing guidance to our youth and assistance to the needy in the Houston community. Through your tax-deductible donation in years 2016 and 2017, and with contributions from other donors, we have done the following:

We awarded three scholarships to Houston area high school students. The scholarship program targets recent high school graduates whose families fall in the “donut hole”  i.e., their income is too much to qualify for financial aid, but too little to pay the cost of college.

We sponsored “The Sunnyside Monarchs,” an inner city little league baseball team. Through sports activities, we are able to mentor inner city youth, serving as "Big Brothers."

We supported several families through social assistance. This social assistance ranged from providing food, shelter and clothing to covering the cost of funeral services.

We conductucted toy drives for disadvantage families. To many of these families, toys raised during these activities are the only toys their children receive during the holidays.

Annually, the Houston Graduate Chapter of Groove Phi Groove administers a competitive scholarship program with the goal of assisting Houston area college students.  Applicants must be a high school student in good standing, enrolled as a full time student, or an entering freshman at an accredited institution of higher learning at the time of applying for the scholarship award. The applicant must demonstrate a consistent academic work ethic.  Applicants must have participated in at least one extracurricular school activity, and in at least one community service project. The applicant must be a United States citizen.

The scholarship recipient must produce a letter of verification of his official enrollment status. Upon meeting the requirements of the scholarship committee, the selected honoree is eligible to receive an award of $1000.00 per year to be paid in $500.00 per semester increments. The scholarship recipient may reapply for the scholarship annually. However, the student must have continuously participated in campus extracurricular activity during the recipient's matriculation at the institution of higher education in which they are officially enrolled. The student must also meet GPA requirements.

Interested applicants must complete the scholarship application.
The signed application must be submitted with (a) an official high school or college transcript; (b) proof of acceptance at the institution of higher learning, and two letters of recommendation: one from a teacher, and another from a non-family member. (e.g., coach, employer, clergy, etc).
