The Mission

Rally For Rangers is a non-profit organization whose mission speaks directly to my heart: 'to protect the world’s special places one motorcycle at a time.' One of the unexpected gifts that motorcycling has given me is a strong connection to the landscape through which I ride, whether it is the local countryside somewhere near Saxapahaw, where I live, or the far reaches of a foreign land. I know that I am not alone in my appreciation of and desire to protect the natural environment.  What a great opportunity to combine two passions!

How It Works

I first heard about Rally For Rangers (RfRF) while attending Overland Expo last fall in Asheville. By that evening, I found myself filling out an application in hopes of joining a select team of riders who will participate in one of the rallies that RfRG conducts around the world. Participants raise funds to purchase a Yamaha AG200, an enduro motorcycle designed specifically for agricultural, military and humanitarian aid. This coming August, over the course of about two weeks, we will ride these bikes across the Mongolian steppe and hand them over to their new owners: the Mongolian rangers who individually patrol and protect thousands of hectares of national park land there. My selected ranger, Sodbileg Bjambajav, is a woman who patrols more than 210,000 acres in the Khar Us Lake National Park, in a very remote part western Mongolia.

Rally For Rangers empowers rangers with the motorcycles and field equipment they desperately need so that they can better protect these vulnerable places from illegal poaching, mining and unregulated development. Rangers patrol thousands of hectares of remote and inhospitable land, working to protect species like the snow leopard and saiga, a critically endangered antelope that walked the earth during the time of  saber-toothed tigers and woolly mammoths.

How you can help

One of my responsibilities as a Rally For Rangers participant is to fundraise. In asking for your financial support I am helping to spread the word of the RfRF mission as well as helping create a community that has the shared experience of doing something positive and tangible to make our planet a better place. Your donation will enable me to provide a motorcycle and the basic field equipment for my ranger so that she can protect and patrol the land entrusted to her care. You can also help by spreading the word to friends, family and neighbors. Every little bit helps and I am so grateful for your support. For donations of $100 or more, I am gifting a handmade necklace featuring motorcycle and snow leopard pendants.
